All glass blowing for Perspectives takes place at Smelt Glass Studio in Johannesburg. In 2013, Mike Hyam and partner Martli Jansen van Rensburg co-founded the studio as a creative hub for glass innovation and collaboration. The studio is dedicated to nurturing emerging talent through internship programs and accessible studio facilities, providing a supportive environment for young glass artists and designers to develop their craft. The studio serves as a crucial space for fostering creativity and pushing the boundaries of glass art, where mentorship and hands-on experience converge.
Smelt Glass Studio has also become a centre for cross-disciplinary collaboration, enabling artists from other mediums to bring their concepts to life through the unique medium of glass. The studio has earned a reputation for its innovative approach, enabling artists to experiment with new techniques and push the creative boundaries of glass. With a vision to advance glass art in South Africa, the studio continues to support emerging artists and foster a community where creativity flourishes.
